making the Difference
Throughout my career as a teacher so far I remember one specific triumph because it involved my entire class. At some point in my second year of teaching I noticed my classroom needed more structure because I was having an unusual amount of behaviors with my students. After having a meeting with my paraeducators, we decided to put up "icons" on the walls to help the students with transitioning between activities and knowing where they need go after sticking their matching "icon" with the blown up version. After about two weeks of implementing this strategy, the behaviors decreased and the students fell into a routine that they needed these "icons" to move on to the next thing when myself, another teacher or staff member prompted them to what was going to happen next. It was a moment to be proud of when another teacher entered the room to witness this in full effect and complimented that I was doing well.
